Lata Pada is Artistic Director of Sampradaya Dance Creations, an award-winning company recognized for innovation and excellence that breaks new ground in choreography and performance with a synthesis of traditional and contemporary dance. She has had an extensive career as a bharatanatyam soloist with performances in prestigious dance festivals worldwide. Lata has been conferred the Order of Canada in 2009, and holds the distinction of being the first South Asian artist to receive this award. She was the recipient of the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman by the President of India in 2011. Her previous works for the company include Revealed by Fire, Shunya and SARUPYAM – Visions of the Divine.
John Murrell (playwright) is one of Canada’s most distinguished and most frequently produced playwrights. His best-known plays include Memoir, Waiting For The Parade, Democracy, The Faraway Nearby, Farther West, and New World. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada, and a recipient of the Governor General of Canada’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement.
Tom Diamond’s (Director) is a renowned operatic acting coach. He is the acting coach for both the COC Ensemble Studio and Montreal’s Atelier Lyrique. His acclaimed productions include premieres of Chan Ka Nin’s Iron Road (Dora Award) and Timothy Sullivan’s Florence the Lady with the Lamp (Chalmers Award), five productions for Pacific Opera Victoria and nine for the Canadian Opera Company. He is the Resident Director/Dramaturge at Tapestry New Opera.
Kabir Bedi ( Lead Actor) remains one of the first international actors from India to have originated from Bollywood, worked in Hollywood, and become a big star in Europe. Bedi is one of India’s finest acclaimed actors in film, television and theatre. His career spans over 40 years worldwide. He is best known in Europe for playing the pirate Sandokan n the highly popular TV mini-series which made him an over-night roaring success and broke viewership records across the continent. He is widely known for his role as the villainous Gobinda in the James Bond film Octopussy. Kabir has had extensive roles on American television – primetime and daytime, series and miniseries –including Hallmark’s African epic Forbidden Territory and Ken Follett’s On Wings of Eagles as well as Red Eagle. He played Friar Sands in The Lost Empire for NBC. Kabir also appeared on classic shows such as Dynasty; Murder, She Wrote; Magnum, P.I.; Hunter; Knight Rider; One Life to Live; General Hospital and as well as a year-long stint on The Bold and the Beautiful. Kabir has over 60 Bollywood films to his credit and was noted for his powerful performance as Shah Jahan in the film Taj Mahal: An Eternal Love Story. He was recently knighted by the Italian Republic and bestowed the title of “Cavaliere” (Knight) of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
Lisa Ray (Lead Actress) is an internationally acclaimed film actress, TV host, model and philanthropist. Named one of the ‘Ten Most Beautiful Indian Women of the Millennium’ by a “Times of India” poll, Ray cemented her profile as an iconic figure in India before leaving for drama school in London and opportunities around the world. She is an award-winning actress who starred in Canada’s Oscar nominated film, Water, amongst other prestigious credits. Ray has taken on the role of host on Top Chef Canada, the Food Network Canada’s top-rated series. In 2012, Lisa was named Ambassador for the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Campaign, recognized with a ‘Facing Cancer Together Award of Honour’ by the ‘Look Good Feel Better’ Charitable Program, and awarded the ‘Light of India Award for Excellence in Arts and Entertainment’. She was featured as one of ’50 Most Beautiful People’ in “Hello! Canada”, and honoured as ‘Entertainment Luminary’ by “Spark” in benefit of the ‘Children’s Aid Foundation’.In October 2012, Ray married financial executive Jason Dehni. She has partnered with Indian Design House, Satya Paul, designing an exclusive line of cocktail sarees inspired by her wedding trousseau, with a portion of sales going to the India Innovation Research Center (IIRC) and the Living With Cancer organization to fund research for a cure for cancer in India.
